Question : Hey Coach you mentioned depth of pitching, you know Andrew pitch very well today and  some young guys like Nate Savino for you as a coach and as a staff how fun is it to watch this pitching set throughout this whole year?

Answer : Well it's been a lot of fun and so you know guys have developed, you know you see Matt Wyatt pitching his best baseball the last three weeks, you see a guy like Savino who's continued to develop and his best days are are ahead of him. You see the recent emergence of Griff McGarry, you know Mike vassal, has been a guy for us all year, when we've really needed him he's, he's stepped up so it's made it exciting to be able to make decisions on who do you put out there, because there's a lot of great options. And so it's been, it's been fun for Coach Dickinson and I and by the way he's doing a incredible job with these young men on the mound getting them to be aggressive and execute and develop and their skill and, you know, the hardest thing that we do is to make decisions on which which guy are we going to give the ball to, because there's a lot of great choices but I'd rather have that decision than the than the other.

Question :  Coach just talk about the chemistry with your catcher in your pitchers tonight, how would they were working facing Vanderbilt , and then from a coaching perspective facing Jack Leilter, what was that like from, you know, kind of like a baseball fan perspective to see that kind of talent?

Answer  : Um, you know, to answer your second question first. The last three games when you face Kevin Coops. Brandon back was a player of the year in the, in the Pac 12 pitch of the PAC 12 And he's sensational and then tonight, you get Jack lighter who's just I've been around for a long time and that's one of the performances I've seen that right up there the top performances I've seen, and he talked about a little bit trash. We can't tell you how proud we are of Luka trash, he, he's a guy that's going for his offense, and was a top prospect. With the scouts coming into the year, and I think they have questions about as catchy maybe. I think he's turned into one of the best defensive catchers in the country. And I tell I've told him all year how he works our pitching staff is so amazing. It's an I've had nothing but great catcher since I've been here, so cold, cold Morton, got a cup of coffee in the big leagues, he was here the other day with his, his dad and his son, he, he made it out here, and you're talking about Brad Austin first round draft pick out of high school, you talk about all these guys that have had the pleasure of coaching, Patrick Bailey first rounder last year, Luca Tresh is right up there with working our pitching staff, and giving them the confidence they need and to get the job done. So just, we're all very, very proud of Luca Tresh thanks for what are up.

Question :  Sam  you to talk about the chemistry tonight between you and your catcher in shutting down, Vanderbilt offense tonight

Answer : Luke is awesome he did another great game tonight back there. Coach trice are calling pitches and Luca playing defense. I don't want anybody back there anybody else back there for me right now. We'll go to rob. Yeah when Tatum hit the home run just Could you tell me how that made you feel, did you think this was one of those games where only one run would win it.
You know, I wasn't sure but that homerun was huge and in the fifth inning, I guess it was, you know, I knew I was, I had done well so far but I knew the game was far from over, you know, know if one round was going to be enough or not but that was a big homerun.

Question :  Ivan obviously with the delay was very crazy how did you and the team, stay mentally ready. And what were you most proud of what you guys overcome tonight?

Answer : Um, I really liked how we overcame the weather delay because in the past it was kind of hard to you know get warmed up again but down in the cages we were, you know, flipping each other we're hitting live off the team, we were staying ready and I think that helped us to our advantage as well.

Question :  Coach obviously with the delay, you know I mentioned earlier, with some of the players, you know, the resilience in the fight of this team. How proud are you of the way these kids, overcome, you know, the big weather and the big inning and the ninth, what was what was going through your mind when that was happening?

Answer : Oh, the weather delays just kind of something that we deal with, we started seeing our having a sand back in the early spring, no matter what the conditions are. If we have adverse cause, just the way we like it so we just try to change the mindset in a positive way and in our favor. What was your second question.
And then the big explosive scoring and the ninth of what was going through your mind when you started seeing your team scoring against CBAS pitching. Well Doug did a nice sharp drawing a walk in, aka constantly puts pressure on people and if you get so bogged down on either side, it's usually going to be a bang bang play. And if they know they're gonna have to be quick with the ball and UK does that consistently size is going to put the sack over move to Rogen scoring position and gets hit by pitch and then Mike's hit Bell is great at the shortstop, man, it was just a heck of a play but fortunately we got the big blow and I'm just sitting there just proud of our team, I mean just, you never know how it's gonna happen. But we always have the mindset, we'll figure it out some way we're going to try to figure out how to win this thing.

Question :  Kumar you had a very very good dominating dominating performance today, just talk about your approach today against NC State, And what were you most proud of, that you accomplished today?

Answer : I want to throw that first one there, and Parker y'all just talk to let me know that a second base, at some point.

Jack Leiter was the winning pitcher in game one of The College World Series Finals. Jack struck out 8 Mississippi State  Batters

Photo Credit : 2021 NCAA Photos /College World Series
Question : Jack two questions for you to talk about the guys that played behind you tonight they scored a lot of runs for you and they played very good defense. What was that like seeing those guys playing behind yeah and then the eight strikeouts tonight. What was, what was it like to have eight strikeouts in the College World Series final?

Answer : I mean, yeah, the defense needs, needs a ton of credit. They kind of did what they do all they've done all year, and it's been, it's been really fun to be a part of knowing that you can kind of pitch to contact in certain circumstances and really trust those guys behind you and then and CJ Rodriguez has been, has been unbelievable all year. I mean I don't, I don't see how there's any catchers better than him the way he, the way he receives and he kind of stays in communication and stays on the same page as a pitcher and he he handles our pitching stuff and he's done it all year it's, it's been really fun to watch him work.

Question : You know, you grew up in a baseball family, your father played in the major leagues and he was in a World Series and now you're playing at a college world series for for the younger baseball, you know players generation the kids for being a son of an athlete, what's it like to kind of have that similarity to play in a World Series, no matter what level it is.

Answer : Um, I mean, yeah, I've learned a lot from my dad, and he pitched in a lot of big games. And I think that advice has kind of kind of helped along because the main thing in any big game is not making it bigger than it is, and remembering that it's the same game you've played since you were little, whether there's 10 People watching or 24,000 like tonight. I think that you kind of just have to simplify it, and from a pitching standpoint that comes down to just making a pitch whether you just gave up five runs whether you just struck out the side, it doesn't matter you come out there and, and you make a pitch and you want to make a good one and maybe it's not a good one, then the next one, next one's your, your only concern really.

Question : Jayson talk about playing behind Jack tonight. What was it like seeing him pitched on the mound and scoring all those runs tonight. I mean talk about this lineup, it seems like no matter who you guys face, you guys can put runs on the board.

Answer : Yeah. To start off with Jack, he's been great all year. He's had our back when when we weren't doing too hard on offense. And we've had his back. So it's been a great year playing behind him and watching this pitches and just the maturity that he has confidence, I think, from him, bounces off to a lot of us so it's it's great playing behind him, and with our lineup, we were just trying to put the ball in play put as much pressure on the defense as possible, try to get as much runs across the board and like I said earlier, trying to slow our heartbeat down and try to help the team.

Question : Tanner You know, you come out on top. As a senior, what's it like to go out with this senior class and your coach. What is he meant to you throughout your whole Mississippi State Career?

Answer : Coach Slim is unbelievable, man. He's a player's coach I tell everybody all the time. No, that guy's somebody you want to play for you, he, he knows when to be serious. He knows when to be loose and to be honest with you. When we're loose, he's loose, it's just, it just clicks so he's a great coach. He's really organized he does things the right way. Jake said, A while back I think in 19 that he was going to bring home a national championship and by God, he did it, And I couldn't be more happy for him.

Question:  Landon The National Championship you guys who came to Omaha, so many times. What's it like to lead the seniors out on top. And what's it like to be a national champion, um,

Answer : You know everybody on this team deserves every little bit of this success, especially the guys who have been here through it all. You know they deserve everything in the world. They've been here three, three I think the older guys have been here three times and the third time was the charm. They ended up on top and you know it means a lot to the younger guys you get to come back next year and defend the title, but to send those guys off on top is a really really good feeling they deserve the world.

Question : What's it like to be a national champion, and what's it like to play for your coach?

Answer : Oh, it's the greatest feeling ever to be a national champion, especially this group of guys, we work so hard to get here and I mean this is awesome. It's unbelievable.

Question : What was it like going through the dog pile we're worrying that on the celebration and being named MVP, what's that moment like for you. So the dog pile I just try to stay as far away from them. I haven't been in the bottom yet and I really don't plan on being the bottom,

Answer : I was kind of just on the outer edge just you know just jumping around, but, uh, yeah, I tried to stay stable far away from the bottom, and then the MVP was was unreal. I didn't really expect it to be honest. But that was that was just a surreal feeling to get that, please reach out, fans will enjoy this national championship. We all know that you will. This drove the champion to walk Pro Fit in a match, right, and he's got a say on the trophy, and it is in Sam's we're already reaching out and let they wait to get me a break. For Tommy got hit all year long. Okay, Coach, thank you for your time. Thank you. Hey, can I say something like I said, are fans of Steve Robertson. That's also a cute offer that the last patiently, but just how next question will come from NYX for the critical maintain that, you know, he's here to get out. What I'm looking forward to this week, forgive me if it's a little loud out here there's a lot of your finger it on the baseball Elizabeth Merrill, we just David Murray, I have a tremendous trying to hit pay him and, but work Sports Network, you bother him, and no nine has bothered them they just, they come out and they enjoy playing the game and in the biggest moments.

Question :  You mentioned, remembering these seniors, this group, how are you going to remember them and how should these fans remember this group from like 1520 years from now.

Answer : Oh that pretty resilient, I mean our journeys what I remember. You remember the players and it was you know I'm sitting there today in my hotel room and I know I'm writing 10 rounds name down for the last time and rowdy Jordan and will Benar and it was hard. I got emotional in our team meeting, is because I've enjoyed coaching them so much enjoyed being on the journey with them and you enjoy it just it's just this team won't be together on the field again. I'm just glad that they can finish his Legends and when you go to Starkville, Mississippi, and you're around 20 years from now, it'll be a, You know, they'll be remembered by everybody.
