Notre Dame Head Football Coach Marcus Freeman Opening Statement

"As I told the team, first and foremost, no victory should be taken for granted. And congratulations on a hard-fought win. I challenged them before on Friday. I challenged them at halftime. The one thing you know about Navy is they'll never quit. They'll never quit. And we had to match their urgency throughout the entirety of the game. We did the first half. We did not have the urgency, the execution that we needed to finish the game the way we wanted to. But the beautiful part is the ability to learn and find a way to win those close games. There's been a couple games this year that have come down to a couple points in the fourth quarter, and we didn't win. And so, we've gotten to a point now we can win those close games and we're going to be better because of it somehow, someway. We have to be better because of what happened in the second half and be able to go and evaluate it as coaches on both sides of the ball and truly go back and find a way to improve as we get ready for Boston College next week".

Question : What's it like to kind of have that sort of sportsmanship with Navy
Knowing what those men are going to do have to do off the field?

Answer :  "Yeah, it's awesome. Obviously, we're very appreciative of what they do.
It's like none other so it was awesome feeling awesome experience. Great thing to see,
But yeah, I just cherished moments like that, and I'm sure the other guys do to".

History of the Notre Dame vs Navy Football Rivalry

Notre Dame and Navy both have strong football traditions dating back to when football was founded. Notre Dame faced severe financial problems during World War II, so the US Navy began to train at the University of Notre Dame during the war. By using their facilities, the University of Notre Dame was able to remain open. Now, both teams continue to have each other on their football schedules year in and year out. The games are played in South Bend, at the University of Notre Dame, or at a neutral site all over the Untied States.
Next season, the match up will be in Ireland. This season's game was played at M&T Stadium, home of the Baltimore Ravens. As a tradition, at the end of the game, each team will stand side by side for the Notre Dame Alma Mater, ”Notre Dame, Our Mother,” and then both teams with go to the other end zone to stand with Navy for their Alma Mater, Navy Blue and Gold.
